Dublin Gutter Repairs, Replacement, and Cleaning Tips

Dublin Gutter Repair Tips

Your gutters at home may feel and look like a not so important part of your home, but they protect the building from unforeseen and massive scale damage. Gutters that are faulty can leak, and this can cause water to seep into the walls or down all the way to your basement, instead of it draining away harmlessly if your gutter was perfectly fine and had no fault. Even with such importance, gutters are greatly under-appreciated and most homeowners overlook or forget to take proper care of them, which usually results in widespread damage to the gutters and if unnoticed and the issues continue your home. If your gutters are damaged/leaking and in critical need of repair, my first advice & suggestion would be to call a good gutter repair service provider that will do a professional job and restore your gutters back to shape. But in the case you can’t access a professional gutter repair service, here are a few tips to help till you can reach one. Try your best to contact a professional gutter repair service after implementing our tips.

  • If the downspout/gutters are clogged, try to clean and free it. The gutter may be filled with leaves, tree branches, and other debris. Once you’ve cleaned the gutter, you’ll have a better view of what exactly needs to be fixed.
  • If there are holes or cracks, use the right sealant. Try to clean, sand and dry the area before applying any form of sealant. You could use waterproof silicone caulk or roof cement. If the hole or crack is too big, you might need a piece of metal flashing to be fixed alongside the sealant.
  • If the gutters look like they’re pulling away from the roof, use fasteners such as screwdrivers or power drills to fasten the screws in place.
  • If you’ve separated gutter sections, use rivets to hold them in place, usually using only glue or sealant might not be all that effective. This process will probably involve you drilling new holes to fit the rivets in.
  • Please, mind the slope of the gutter. If you mess up the gutter slope, water might not run off properly and this would probably cause more damage to the entire gutter system.

Dublin Gutter Cleaning Tips

Unclean gutters can be filled with leaves, dirt, twigs and other debris. When a gutter system is clogged it will not only prevent water from draining properly but it will also cause damage to gutter systems themselves. As rain and heavy debris collect and begin to be stored in the gutter they tend to pull away from walls. The longer you let your gutters sit in unrepaired and clogged the more costly a repair, replacement or cleaning job will be. Gutter cleaning can be an unpleasant or even dangerous job if you do not know what you are doing.¬† It is important to have your gutters inspected or cleaned at least once a year to prevent water from pooling around your house which may lead to costly damage to your home’s foundation, basement or exterior.

Gutters provide protection by keeping excess amounts of water away from your home. Without gutters, your home’s roof, basement, foundation, and exterior would be exposed to a lot of water damage which could lead to expensive repairs. The best ways to keep your home’s gutter system in a good performance is to:

  • Clean the gutter systems annually or seasonally to remove all debris. You can do this by removing all available debris such as leaves and sticks from the gutters.
  • Replace all old and damaged components of your gutter systems to prevent clogs and damage, and repairing all non-working parts.

Steps to Cleaning & Maintaining your Gutters

  • Practice ladder safety, use a firm and sturdy ladder. Ensure you let someone know you’re cleaning the gutters, preferably don’t clean the gutters alone.
  • Clean, rake or power wash all debris off the roof first, else the next rain will wash all the debris down into the clean gutters again.
  • Get a plastic gutter scoop to scoop out all leafy debris.
  • Protect your hands by wearing gloves.
  • Protect you eyes by using safety goggles.
  • Use a garden hose to wash the gutters when cleaning is complete.
  • Unclog downspouts.
  • Don’t go close to power lines.

My sister lives in an area that gets a lot of rain and otherwise bad weather. Because of this, it seems like her gutters are always full of debris and need to be cleaned out. I appreciate you talking about doing a little bit at a time so that it doesn’t turn into a massive project that she needs to do all at once.
